Waking Up the Sunrise on Masada

Rise and shine pioneers! We started off to a very early morning. Everyone was up and ready to go by 3:45, and we were off to climb Masada. A nice power nap on the bus really got everyone going. Once we got there, we saw many other camps from all over the world climbing up with us. As we slowly walked up the mountain, each step got steeper and steeper. It was pitch black when we began, so no one was able to see what they were really in for. As we climbed higher, we started to see some light. We tried to get to the top before sunrise, so we can actually watch it from above.

Breathlessly, we all made it to the top! It felt like such an amazing accomplishment, especially because we made it before sunrise. The view was incredible and everyone was constantly yelling for Joe to come take pictures of us. Just after a few minutes of taking in the beautiful view, we slowly saw the sun rising. No one could help but smile; and with one week left we enjoyed every second.

As the sun continued to rise, we prayed overlooking the mountain. Many of us felt so connected after witnessing some funerals for the soldiers yesterday. Being on top of Masada really made is appreciate and be very thankful. We had such an amazing time!
