Life Before Waze & Shower Time!

 In blog, ILEAD 2016

“In 500 feet, turn right!” Was there a way to get around before Waze? Over the 2nd and 3rd day of ILEAD,  the pioneers were trained and educated on navigation skills. Experiential learning demands to put the skills to test. They found their way through mountains, city and village. As every day is like a week on ILEAD they also had an intro to public speaking, learned Krav Maga and other activities… Finally, they experienced the original natural pools to cool off and took their first shower 🙂

See below post from David Maslaton & Miryam Davydova on their Day 2 and 3…and of course, check out the awesome pics and vids.

Day 2: We woke up in the morning, and ate a great breakfast of shakshuka, made by our bus driver Shlomo. Right after breakfast we had lessons on navigating in the wilderness from the navigation company Derech Talon. The lessons were very informative. Then we had nice exercise games with our counselors which dealt with the issues of trust. We had delicious lunch which was then followed by a navigating based hike. It was an opportunity to put the skills we learned that morning to the test. The hike was so much fun and it was very interesting to find our ways through the mountains and land we were in. There were  a few difficulties along the way but we managed. After that we had dinner and after dinner we went to the beach to play a game. We were divided into two groups one group represented British people and the other group was the Jews. The game was to run as fast as you can away from the British soldiers, to represent what the Jews experienced when they came into Israel around world war two time. Then we made our way to a detention camp in Atlit which was used by the British at that time to detain the Jews. Bonnie and Aaron gave a presentation on Atlit, and then one of our counselors Adi told us her family story, and how her grandmother was one of the Jews that came to Atlit. Then we came back to camp to finish off our day.

Day 3: We woke up had good cereal and milk for breakfast. Then we got a second opportunity to  use our navigating skills. We did a city navigation this time. We went to a Druze village. It was interesting to see the village that they lived in and meet some of the Druze people. After returning to camp  we received a public speaking lecture. Then the boys and girls split up. The boys had a krav maga class while the girls had activities with the counselors and then we switched. Then we a rare surprise… We got to swim in a pool and take showers!!!! We finished off the night with pizza for dinner and then returned to our campsite.

Do you see the exclamation points at the end of the word showers above? That was not edited. Hold on to this post for reminders of appreciation when the Pioneers return back home. 🙂
