ILEAD Goes Architectural

We kicked off the week with quite the challenge on Sunday morning: The Marshmallow Challenge to be more specific. One of our madrichim, Josh, split us into four groups and provided each with dry spaghetti, string, masking tape, and one marshmallow. The task was simple. Each group had exactly fifteen minutes to try and build the tallest structure possible using only the materials provided.The marshmallow had to go on the very top. Turns out, this task is MUCH harder than it looks. With just a few moments to go until time was up, each group seemed to have succeeded in constructing a solid, marshmallow-topped structure. But within seconds, all but one of the groups watched their masterpieces crumble before their eyes (the winning group is pictured below!) Nevertheless, it was an awesome activity that required creativity, logic, collaboration, and a very open mind. Afterwards, we listened to a ‘TED Talk’ that explained how the Challenge is used across the globe to help researchers collect data about team-work, creativity, and critical thinking.
