A Pioneer's Perspective – Raymond Chappan

Us 40 pioneers were gathered in our newly founded כיפת תקוה headquarters, working painstakingly for a cause we all strongly believe in.

In the heat of the moment, we heard the sirens. “Let’s go, צבע אדום. ” we heard. Just like that, we jumped right into action. Things went from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye. We all ran to the shelter as if we were running in the olympic’s 100 Meter sprint. Within seconds we were all safely in the shelter and accounted for we were then greeted By Shiloh’s comforting smile. We were officially Israelis.

After the 10 minute shelter “waiting period”, we went right back to work. Although scared and shocked, we went back to work on our Kippat tikvah mission. The incident made our cause even more important to us, since we now lived through and experienced just a small taste of what kids our age encounter everyday in the South. We all believed wholeheartedly in our cause.

The next day, we went to shul and returned to discuss the rocket incident in depth and to talk through our emotions. Our counselors were there to guide us and comfort us every step of the way. After a day of Kippat tikvah planning, we took a break to visit the Aco jail and to go for a run and swim in our hostel’s pool. (By the way this is like the four season’s of hostels).
It was praying, dinner, and back to work for us pioneers.

Once again, during or diligent Kippat tikvah work, the sirens went off. Now, nearly pros, us Americans kept our cool and ran to the shelter in record time. Once everyone was accounted for, we took an amazing selfie that puts Ellen’s Oscar selfie to shame. For the record, we still don’t want to go
home.
